Confirmation 2017-2018

2017-2018 Confirmation Registration & Release Form

Dear St. John’s Catechumen and Families,

Fall is around the corner and it’s time to think about the coming year! As we grow in body and mind, in understanding and in maturity, it is also of the utmost importance that we grow in faith and in our understanding of God and the Gospel. It is our aim and intention to work on this together on Wednesday evenings. We work toward a confirmation Sunday for everyone, but we have to keep in mind that this process of learning and growing must continue to our last day on earth.

When you were brought to the baptismal waters, your parents, sponsors, and congregation made some awesome promises with God....

to live with them among God's faithful people,

bring them to the word of God and the holy supper,

teach them the Lord's Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments,

place in their hands the holy scriptures,

and nurture them in faith and prayer,

so that your children may learn to trust God,

proclaim Christ through word and deed,

care for others and the world God made,

and work for justice and peace.  (ELW 228)

At your baptism, your parents promised to do these things for you, but now you are challenged to begin to do these things for yourself, as an exercise of your own faith. To help you grow in faith and understanding, this year we will be exploring together the life of Jesus and the Ten Commandments.

All Catechumens and Parents are invited to a Confirmation Picnic on Wednesday evening September 6th at 5:30pm at St. John’s (we will be outdoors weather permitting.)  At this gathering, you will receive important material for the year including a schedule, and we will also talk about why we even do this “Confirmation Business” at all. It’s very important for you to be here so that we are all on the same page.

Please complete and return by mail the “2017-2018 Confirmation Student Registration, Transportation, & Medical Release Form,” which is included in this mailing, along with a check for $45, payable to “St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church” by Wednesday, September 6, 2017, if possible.  This registration fee helps fund our vitally important confirmation ministry (our mailing PO Box number is 178).  Scholarships are available for all students upon request.  If a scholarship is needed, please contact Pastor Gary.

It is important that students bring their Lutheran Study Bibles and their copies of the Small Catechism to every class session.  If you have not received the Lutheran Study Bible, please let Pastor Gary know and he will make sure you have one.
